If you are only a temporary UK resident you can still apply, but you will need to provide details of your doctor in your native country. (Who must be able to complete a medical history form in English)
This is due to the fact that when participating in a study. you may have to attend the unit for brief visits for blood samples or follow up appointments To find out if you are within this catchment area please click here.
We need to contact your GP in order to verify your health status; therefore your previous medical notes have to be available. This does not apply if you are a temporary resident– so long as you can provide details of your doctor from your native country.
Before you commence any clinical trial with us we check on the TOPS database to check for co-volunteering. (TOPS - the over-volunteering prevention system.is a database that aims to prevent healthy volunteers from taking part too often in trials of new medicines). This is for your own safety, so we can closely monitor your participation in studies.
It is potentially dangerous to participate in more than one clinical study at any one time, as you could be exposed to substances that interact with each other.
Accordingly, it is GlaxoSmithKline’s policy that we should ask our volunteers not to participate in more than one study at any time, as well as leaving a minimum interval of 3 or 4 months (depending on the stage of development of the study drug) between studies. In order to safeguard the wellbeing of our volunteers, we can access a national clinical trials database compiled by research units, which allows research organisations like ours to verify that an individual volunteer is not participating in a study elsewhere.
In order to check the clinical trials database, we need you to provide us with your National Insurance number (if you are a UK citizen), and some form of photo identification. This might be your passport or driving licence (We must see your passport if you are not a UK citizen), or if you cannot provide your passport, your driving licence. It is important to emphasise that neither your name nor any other personal information is entered into the clinical trials database.
